CHAIR GRAVEYARD: PEG LEG

CHAIR GRAVEYARD: PEG LEG
Alright, granted, Peg Leg is not the most sensitive name for a chair. But he's not a sensitive chair and he's never minded the name. We made him back in aught six, shortly after we hooked up as DoubleButter, intending to make a whole batch for the US Green Building Council's show in Denver. But, alas for poor Peg Leg, before the show arrived we came up with the Roadrunner and the rest is history. This fella's always been among our favorites in the chair graveyard behind the shop, more so now that he's weather-beaten and stained. Still wicked comfortable though and still plenty strong.

EMPIRE STATE OF SHEEP

Empire State of Sheep from DoubleButter on Vimeo.

A couple in NYC ordered up this custom Sheep credenza. Soon after we handed it off to Clovis and Darnell of Horsehead Crating we found this strange video in our in-box. Sure, we cut the Tillman brothers some slack since they're crate builders by trade, but please, fellas, someday you're gonna have to get a video camera (and some proper editing skills).

Still we're fans of this Sheep's moves, and that Jay-Z and Alicia Keys track suits him and his future home just fine. Yes, his steps may be limited and his rhythm may not be perfect. But what he lacks in natural skills he more than makes up for in chest-out attitude and smashing good looks.

YAMMERERS HAMMERING IT

YAMMERERS HAMMERING IT
The second video from the Cities X Design crew, this one without any talking, just a lot of dust. As far as that strange soundtrack goes, puzzling yes, but the Cities X Design-ers have their own taste and really, why not? For us, it's been a bit of a throwback summer here at the shop (all 90s Hip-Hop, all the time) so we were hoping for a little Dre, maybe something off The Chronic, or maybe Jay-Z's Big Pimpin'. But that's probably just us feeling badass in the summertime. Oh, and we did get another "badass" for this, from Jay Corless (who was working the camera) after we hit the underside of the chair with the brand. Wait for it, it comes at the very end of the clip (the branding that is; Jay's "badass" came after he shut off the camera, he is a professional after all).

SIGNS THAT OUR NEIGHBORHOODS DON'T SUCK

SIGNS THAT OUR NEIGHBORHOODS DON'T SUCK
Our neighborhoods: Baker for Dexter and the shop and Cole for David (throw in Five Points for fun). They don't suck. Not at all. Here's the first in a series of reasons why they don't suck: this remodeled, brilliant-smart, freshly muraled Good Building on Larimer at 33rd. The work of Boulder-based design/build firm tres birds and, on mural, Boulder-based designers cypher13. As if you didn't already know from the typeface. Fresh work all around, fellas, but if you ever drive your pansy asses down from Boulder again and drop wicked fine work into one of our backyards without asking permission first you're gonna get those asses kicked, DoubleButter style. Ya heard? Oh, and nice work, c13, on the new site. Fantastic.

ROADRUNNER SHOEFITI: GLASGOW

ROADRUNNER SHOEFITI: GLASGOW
Ennis Tillman and his favorite bird, Meabh, "threw" a pair of Roadrunner shoefiti in their hometown, Glasgow. We say "threw" since the story we got from Ennis is, in typical Tillman fashion, a little hard to believe. He claims that Meabh flew the little chairs to their current perch, string in beak. Not totally impossible, mind you, since the rubber is lightweight, but come on, not bloody likely. Regardless, we're feeling these photos in a big way. Not sure if that is a typically Glaswegian location or a typically Glaswegian day but the whole scene looks typically Tillman to us. Beautifully done, Ennis, and if you insist, Meabh.

YAMMERERS YAMMERING

YAMMERERS YAMMERING
A challenge for you: watch the whole video (click this bit here to watch it on You Tube; we could do the whole embed thing but really, why?), start to finish, paying attention (more or less) the whole time. It's a dare. You make it through this whole thing, listening to these two blowhards blowing hard, and we'll send you a fresh package of circus peanuts. No fooling. Or, at least we'll send the first ten of you who watch the thing the whole way through a pack of circus peanuts. And no cheating. We have ways of knowing who watched the whole thing and who just watched part. And we can tell if you were paying attention. Impossible? Just try us. Send us a note with your mailing address to claim your prize. UPDATE, MORNING OF SEPTEMBER 1: The prize window is officially closed. We should have known: nine of the first ten respondents were Tillmans, circus peanuts being a Tillman staple (Hollah Jean's recipe for Circus Peanut and Tuna Casserole is legendary). The other bag was claimed by our friend Maura who admits to a weakness for the nasty little treats.

ROADRUNNER SHOEFITI: SEATTLE

ROADRUNNER SHOEFITI: SEATTLE
EB Tillman and his lovely missus Dora Rae recently came back from a trek up the left coast, pushing as far as Seattle (site of their honeymoon of some time back), where they tossed this pair of Roadrunners. (EB claims he and his bride consummated their vows atop the Space Needle, though that may be just a euphemism.) Clovis and Darnell say they got their taste for whiskey from EB and Dora Rae and whiskey may explain the delicate perch of these little rubber chairs. The couple hit the Hendrix museum and then, in the words of EB, "we started hitting all the dives north and east of downtown Seattle, plugging quarters in every juke that featured Jimi, till we found ourselves beyond blitzed, only to pass out unawares in the oldest park in Seattle, the Denny. When we woke, we saw a miscast shoeffitti, apparently from the night before, and snapped these photos for the boys." A fine Tillman yarn which, like the rest, may actually have a thread of truth within.

BADASS CANTILEVERED STORAGE WALL

BADASS CANTILEVERED STORAGE WALL
"Badass." Now that's not a word we just throw around. We save it for the truly badass, like this piece here for a lovely Denver family in Bonnie Brae. Oh, and "badass" isn't our label; that came from the mom.
