ART BY ARTISTS CLOVIS AND DARNELL KNOW: WOLFGANG TILLMANS

ART BY ARTISTS CLOVIS AND DARNELL KNOW: WOLFGANG TILLMANS
When the original Tillmans steamed over from Germany and rolled through Ellis Island they rolled out the other side missing the trailing "s" on their last name. Tillmans became Tillman much in the same way that Larrabee became Larabee. Immigration officials mangled and shortened and otherwise misspelled many immigrant family names. But they didn't break family ties and Clovis and Darnell maintain theirs with cousin Wolfgang Tillmans, the German artist and possessor of a big chunk of the clan's artistic talent and nearly all of its artistic success. The boys would be the first to admit that. With a massive CV and awesome body of work, a sniff of which is below, more of which is on Wolfgang's site and the hulking bulk of which is a bit intimidating. No wonder our boys drink too much.

DOUBLEBUTTER BRANDING, HORSEHEAD CRATING

DOUBLEBUTTER BRANDING, HORSEHEAD CRATING
This is the way the DB brand was meant to be used. On shipping boxes, inside drawers, on the underside of our solid wood pieces. It pops and is both fresh and old-school, or so we think. The Horsehead boys, who continue to deliver fast and tight freight crates, prefer it to be used otherwise. They're trying to talk a friend of Millard Tillman into letting them brand his butt (we wish we were kidding about this) and the dude seems to be seriously considering it. In trade for furniture, of course. Holy calamity, scream insanity.

ROADRUNNER SHOEFITI: DENVER, 16TH AND BOULDER

ROADRUNNER SHOEFITI: DENVER, 16TH AND BOULDER
Darnell got after some low-grade criminality today and chucked a pair of Shoefiti above the intersection of 16th and Boulder streets in Denver, adding a Roadrunner tag down below. Near the Olinger sign that peers over downtown, just down from Little Man Ice Cream, right out front of Lola. Not a bad spot in the least. Oh, and a wicked fine view of the string of pedestrian bridges extending from Union Station, crossing the tracks of the Consolidated Main Line, the Platte and finally I-25. The jewel of the lot, not that anyone asked our opinion, is the Millenium Bridge over the CML. Obviously and hands-down. Designed by Architecture Denver with an assist from the engineers at Ove Arup.

SIGNS THAT OUR NEIGHBORHOODS DON'T SUCK (AKA SIGNS THAT CLOVIS SCORED HIS MEDICAL MARIJUANA CARD)

SIGNS THAT OUR NEIGHBORHOODS DON'T SUCK (AKA SIGNS THAT CLOVIS SCORED HIS MEDICAL MARIJUANA CARD)
Alright, so maybe Clovis burned a bit of high-grade rope before snapping these photos, and maybe they are a bit hippy-dippy for our taste, but here they are nonetheless. It's fall, and the afternoon was very fair today, so why not pay our respects? Plus, the oaks all around town are kicking some serious ass right now, especially since many of the sissier trees dropped their leaves in a brown mess after the hard freeze we had a few weeks back. These here, and many more in a skittles-rainbow of colors, are out front of the 9 News building on Logan between Speer and 3rd. That's right, in the not-sucky neighborhood of our shop in Baker.

ART BY ARTISTS WE KNOW: JAMIE KRIPKE

ART BY ARTISTS WE KNOW: JAMIE KRIPKE
Jamie Kripke is a Boulder-based photographer with a fine eye and some fine skills. Clovis is mad jealous (since he fancies himself as a bit of a photographer) and we'll hear about it (the betrayal!) after posting up this nod to Jamie's work. But, hell, anything to get Clovis out of bed before noon and in to work. Plus Jamie's got the storefront at 19th and Pearl where we're planning to drop our pop shop by month's end. Many more photos on Jamie's site.
